In occasione dell’XI assemblea generale annuale del MIO – ECSDE (Ufficio di informazioneMediterraneo per l’ambiente, la cultura e lo sviluppo sostenibile), tenuta al Cairo dal 17 al 19 novembre 2006 nella sede della Lega dei Paesi Arabi, la Casa dei Diritti Sociali è entrata a far parte di questa prestigiosa rete di ONG, che comprende circa 100 associazioni dei paesi del Mediterraneo.
Inoltre, sempre al Cairo, il 20 novembre il dr. Emad Adly, egiziano, ha presentato alla terza conferenza Euro-Med dei Ministri dell’Ambiente della Unione Europea e dei paesi arabi del Mediterraneo, una dichiarazione a nome delle ONG dei paesi del Mediterraneo.
Cos’è il MIO- ECSDE
La rete di associazioni è nata oltre 16 anni fa ad Atene, è sostenuta dall’Unione Europea e dal Programma delle Nazioni Unite per l’Ambiente (UNEP); il suo principale campo d’intervento e l’educazione ambientale per l’acquisizione di stili di vita sostenibili, come strumento di comprensione e di cittadinanza, di deflazione dei conflitti e di pace.
Presidente del MIO- ECSDEè Michael Scoullos,professore di chimica all’Università di Atene.

Cos'è la Casa dei Diritti Sociali (CDS)
Casa dei Diritti Sociali (House of social Rights) is a No-profit National Federation of Associations, founded in 1985for the promotion of citizenship, rising awareness and defence of consumers and for protection of environment. It is also involved in education and training as ininformation and dissemination of the principles and policies of EU and UN and International Organization (F.A.O. - O.M.S. - I.0.C .U. e B.E.U.C.) whom the Federation collaborate with and join to.
It has entered in all the institutional lists of associations and organizations performing voluntary work and it is the mainpromoter and manager of Centre of Servicesfor Voluntary Work of Italian Regions (Centro Servizi per il Volontariato). Membership is mainly on voluntary basis. There are many local branches engaged in campaigns, actions and projectsimproving social relationships, multicultural society, the quality of the environment and the awareness of citizen and consumers. Very important are the projects ”In a Biological Way ” (A modo Bio) on food, health education and biological agriculture, as well as recycling waste, and “You and Me” (Io eTe) on Sustainable Development of some coastal areas and Towns (Gaeta).
The sectors of EE and SDE in the federation has developed starting from the good practices inside local communities where associations of small producers and craftsmen and associations of consumershave started working for a more sustainable use of the resources of their territory, aiming at:
- a development improving the life of populations and the satisfaction of their needs without compromising the ones of the future generations;
- a development to be measured upon the quality of environmentand the welfare of the present and future society.
- building relationship inside society supporting the birth and the development of associations and networks.
An example of activities and good practices towards territory and environment and promoting local sustainable development from 2004 to 2006 is supplied by FOCUS-CDS in South Italy:
- network for the restoration of historical heritage of city centres;
- good practices for the sustainability of fresh water resources;
- avoiding wood firesand managing waste;
- building literary parks;
- biological agriculture;
- quality assessment for agro industrial goods;
- solidarity in purchasing groups;
- production in Calabria halfway between home activity and business;
- the cuisine/South Italy food and paprika;
- sounds and musical instrument of the tradition;
